BOGOTÁ'S MATERIAL HERITAGE - MARKET PLACES

From an investigation carried out on the material heritage of Bogotá through the market squares; We found that the market square of the Las Cruces neighborhood has a high potential to be an example of a place where we could experience the presence of living heritage in our daily lives. A renovation project for the market square and its immediate surroundings would contribute to its social appropriation and would benefit the revitalization of the Las Cruces sector. An architectural project with a social emphasis proposed to strengthen social values and update the function of the Las Cruces market square to the current pace of life, in addition to increasing its dynamics of food trade:Las Cruces Gastronomic Center.

The market square of the Las Cruces neighborhood is a great example of ecclesiastical architecture in Bogotá, being the oldest square that is still standing, since its construction it has been a symbol of history and tradition, hosting a cultural exchange inside, and a direct connection between the countryside and the city. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in Bogotá, the square is one of the best examples of living heritage in Bogotá, it is a monument that is visited and toured and that continues with its original function. Through the restoration of the commercial node, made up of the market square and its surroundings, it seeks to contribute to the development of the Las Cruces neighborhood. Likewise, with the creation of the Las Cruces Gastronomic Center, the function of the market square would be enhanced, and a space would be created in which an integral contribution is made to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the city and the intangible heritage, represented for peasant culture.

IDENTITY

The process of creating the identity of the project started from the abstraction of the relationships that occur within the market place, specifically the interaction between sellers and buyers. The sellers represent the Colombian countryside, the rural environment of the country, while the buyers represent the city and the urban environment. On this initial premise, the bases were structured that finally led to the definition of the urban gardens as the soul of the project, since the gardens create a direct connection with the market place.

MEMORY

The project as a whole seeks to represent the life of the farmer and the process through which food must go from the moment of its harvest to its distribution and sale in the different existing channels for this. To promote and arouse the interest of citizens in the gastronomy of the different regions where the peasant culture is lived and thereby motivate both the approach and knowledge of its roots, as well as respect and appreciation for this noble culture and its contribution to the survival of society. With the creation of this type of experience, a close relationship would initially be generated with the space where they can be lived, that is, with the Gastronomic Center itself, so that with the passage of time, the appropriation and appreciation of the peasant culture and its representatives would be generated.

SOLIDARITY

The design was projected based on the Las Cruces market square from its regular users and the inhabitants of the area, thus trying to create a concept according to their daily life and lifestyle, for which several public accesses were arranged. to the Gastronomic Center without much restriction, in order to facilitate the experience that is lived when visiting the countryside and promote, in this way, the connection of many inhabitants of the city with their peasant origins and have the opportunity to learn a little more about his past, as well as those who are attracted to this noble way of life. This experience is achieved through permeable entrances, open to the public, taking into account certain limitations given by the insecurity that may exist.

PROJECT GREEN

The scarcity of green areas in the neighborhood is notorious for this, one of the fundamental premises of the design was based on the importance of creating green spaces where nature was the protagonist, for which different sustainable strategies were applied. Nature is permanently perceived in the Gastronomic Center: from its walkable green roof to its façade, a vertical garden of spontaneous plant growth.
